There is a lot of information to be gained by looking at a site on the Clean Water Hub.

Before we dive in, some definitions:

  • Site: a monitoring location

  • Protocol: one of several water quality monitoring procedures with data stored on the Clean Water Hub - e.g. SOS Chemical, Salt Watch, etc.

  • Reading: an individual datapoint submitted via one of the aforementioned protocols

Navigating to a site's page

To view the data reported at a site, access the site's page in one of the following ways:

  • Locate the site on one of the Clean Water Hub's interactive maps - click on the site's name to be taken to the site's page.

  • Search for the site. On the Clean Water Hub's top menu bar, select "Explore Data" > "All Sites." Scroll down until you see a search bar (below the map of all sites). Type in the name of your site and click "Search." Select your site from the list of options to be taken to the site's page.

  • Find your site under the "My Sites" tab. If you've created a site on the Hub, you can find it under the "My Sites" tab at the top of your screen.

On the "My Sites" page, you'll be able to view sites you have created both on a map and in a list below the map. Click on a site to be taken to the site's page.

Information on a site's page

There is a lot of information contained on a site's page. Refer to the labelled items and their descriptions below to understand the different components of a site page. Note: not all sites will include each of these pieces of information.

  • A: Map of the site's location. Use the switches at the top lefthand corner of the map to toggle between "streets" and "satellite" map view. Use the +/- arrows at the top righthand corner of the map to zoom in and out. Click and drag the map with your cursor to move it around.

  • B: Site image.

  • C: Site name.

  • D: Site description.

  • E: Pencil "edit" icon - only visible if you created the site or manage an organization associated with it.

  • F: Organization(s) with which the site is associated.

  • G: Name of water source.

  • H: Location of site (City, State)

  • I: "Create a reading" dropdown menu - only visible if you created the site or manage an organization associated with it.

  • J: Protocols enabled for the site.

The rest of the site's page includes its data readings and data visualization. More on that below.

Viewing a site's data

The majority of a site's page is devoted to showcasing the data readings reported at that site and a graph of this data. A screenshot of an example of a site's data is included below.

All sites will display data in the following order:

  • List of protocols enabled for the site - the protocol in grey is selected

  • Graph of a site's data for the selected protocol

  • Details for the latest reading at the site for the selected protocol

  • A list of all data readings reported at the site for the selected protocol

By default, the protocol listed first will be selected. To view data and a graph for a different protocol, click on the name of the protocol in question (e.g. SOS Biological, Salt Watch, Nitrate Watch).

When viewing SOS Chemical data, the graph for dissolved oxygen (mg/L) readings will be displayed by default, but you have the option to view a graph for each parameter. To view the graph for a different parameter (e.g. pH, nitrate, transparency), click on the name of the parameter in the area below the graph.

Below the graph and the details for your latest reading, you'll find a list of all of the readings reported at the site for the selected protocol. To view a reading in detail, click the grey "view" button to the left of the reading. If you created the site or you manage an organization associated with the site, you may click the grey "edit" button next to a reading to edit it.
